Rejuvenate the Face by Treating Nasolabial Folds
No one looks forward to the time when wrinkles and lines start to develop on the face. However, most people understand that these telltale signs of aging eventually develop. The ironic thing about wrinkles is that, although most of them are formed (at least partially) as the result of smiling, they often end up making a person look sad, angry, or tired. Nasolabial folds, which form between the cheeks and corners of the mouth, can make a person look especially worn down. Dermal fillers can fill out these deep creases to smooth the skin and give patients a more refreshed, alert, and cheerful appearance. At Full Spectrum Dermatology, Dr. William P. Baugh offers his Fullerton patients a number of nasolabial folds treatment options to restore a more youthful appearance.
Dermal Fillers
As an experienced dermatologist, Dr. Baugh offers his patients non-surgical treatment options for cosmetic flaws such as facial lines, wrinkles, and creases. When a patient is concerned with deep creases, such as nasolabial folds, the most appropriate treatment option is a dermal filler or injectable. There are several types of dermal fillers that are offered by Dr. Baugh, and the form of treatment that is best for each patient will depend largely on the unique needs and specific desires for treatment. The following dermal fillers may be considered for the treatment of nasolabial folds:
- JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel: This filler is a smooth gel that is injected at the site of wrinkles or deep creases to smooth out the skin while maintaining a natural appearance. This dermal filler improves skin volume and also restores hyaluronic acid to the skin, which helps the skin stay moisturized and supple. While treatment is not permanent, results of JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel should last for about a year.
- Radiesse®: Radiesse® is another dermal filler that can restore volume to areas of the face where deep creases are present. Radiesse® is composed of a synthetic mineral material and stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen to fill out sunken facial features. This product is hypoallergenic and extremely safe, even for those with allergies. Radiesse® produces results that can last for up to two years.
- Restylane® and Perlane®: Restylane® and Perlane® are similar products and are both commonly used to treat deep wrinkles, especially those around the nose and mouth. For nasolabial folds that are not as severe, these products should effectively smooth the skin to give patients a naturally youthful appearance.
Surgery
In most cases, dermal fillers can effectively provide patients with the treatment they desire for nasolabial folds while saving them from the need for elective surgery. However, there are times when a patient is looking for a more permanent cosmetic solution. While Dr. Baugh does not perform cosmetic surgery procedures, such as a facelift, he will be happy to recommend a qualified surgeon to those patients who are in need of more aggressive treatment.
